The Castle of Cocentaina is an amazing old building in Cocentaina, Alicante, Spain. It was built a long time ago, in the 14th century! This cool castle sits high up on a rocky hill, about 765 meters above sea level. It has been fixed up recently and is now a major symbol of the town.

What is the Cocentaina Castle?

The Cocentaina Castle is a great example of a military Gothic building. This means it was built in a strong, castle-like style common during the Gothic period, designed for defense. The main part of the castle is a tall, square tower with two floors.

Inside the Castle Tower

On the first floor of the tower, you'll find an open area called a patio. There's also a well, which was important for getting water. You can also see a small chapel and a warehouse for storing supplies.

The upper floor was where the important people, like the lords or rulers, lived. This floor has a special edge called a cornice with battlements. Battlements are those tooth-like shapes on top of castle walls. They were used by guards to protect the castle. There's also a path for guards to walk along the top.

Why is the Cocentaina Castle Important?

The castle is important because it shows us how people lived and built things in the 14th century. It's a protected landmark in Spain, recognized for its historical value. Visiting the castle is like taking a step back in time!
