Route of the Castles of Vinalopó facts for kids
The Route of the Castles of Vinalopó is a special journey in Spain. It connects many old castles in the province of Alicante, which is part of the Valencian Community. Most of these castles are found in the beautiful Vinalopó Valley.
This route takes you through the mountains of Alicante. You'll discover many castles and forts. These buildings were very important long ago, during the Middle Ages. They helped protect the towns. At that time, these areas were borderlands. They lay between the Kingdom of Valencia and the Kingdom of Castile.
The route is about 75 kilometres long. It passes through nine different towns. This area is one of the places in Spain with the most castles. You can find them in towns like Villena, Biar, Banyeres de Mariola, Castalla, Sax, Elda, Petrer, and Novelda.
The Vinalopó Valley is full of these old castles and strongholds. They are a gift from the Arab people who lived there first. Later, Christians also added to this history. Both cultures left behind amazing buildings.
