The Cocopah Indian Reservation is a special area of land set aside for the Cocopah Indian Tribe. This tribe is officially recognized by the United States government. In their own language, Cocopah, they call themselves Xawiłł Kwñchawaay.
In the year 2000, about 1,025 people lived on the Cocopah Indian Reservation. More than half of these residents were Native American. The reservation covers about 25.9 square kilometers (or about 10 square miles). It is located in Yuma County, Arizona.
The reservation is made up of three parts that are not connected to each other. These parts are found northwest, southwest, and south of the city of Yuma, Arizona. The largest part of the reservation is next to the Colorado River. It is west of a town called Somerton, Arizona. Another part is just east of Somerton.
The Cocopah Indian Reservation has a fun place for visitors: a casino and a bingo hall. These places help support the tribe. Another Native American group, the Quechan tribe, lives nearby on the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation.
