Coffman is a small, unincorporated community located in Missouri, United States. It's found in Sainte Genevieve County, specifically within Saline Township. You can find Coffman about 15 miles southwest of the town of Ste. Genevieve. Being an unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
History of Coffman
The community of Coffman has an interesting past. A post office was opened here in 1875. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years, until it finally closed in 1942.
The name "Coffman" comes from John Coffman. He was a landowner who lived nearby and was originally from Virginia. Before Coffman, there was another settlement close by called New Tennessee. This earlier community was started by Protestant American settlers. Many of these first residents came from the state of Tennessee.
What's in Coffman Today?
