Colin "Col" Darcy, formerly known as Caper, is an Australian rapper and music producer.
Early life
Darcy was born in Whyalla, South Australia, and is an Aboriginal Australian of the Narungga people. He grew up with his mother, who died when he was 15 years old.
He played football in the Australian Football League (AFL), until an injury forced him to stop playing professionally.
Career
Darcy writes and produces his own songs, many of which deal with racism and other issues experienced by Aboriginal Australians.
His song "How Would You Like To Be Me" was subject to controversy when it was first released in 2011. The song describes Darcy's own experiences of racism; the lyrics quote racial slurs that were frequently used against him, which led to Facebook removing the music video from their platform. Following protests from other Facebook users, the platform allowed the video to be published again. In 2019, "How Would You Like To Be Me" was played in the Netflix original movie A Second Chance: Rivals!.
Darcy has worked as a field officer for the South Australian Native Title Services, and as a mentor for Indigenous children. In 2020, he started working full time with his music.
In 2022, his new album Beautiful Hopeless was released.
