A Glimpse into Cole Valley's History

Cole Valley first started to grow around a special stop for streetcars. This stop was at the entrance to the Sunset Tunnel, right where Carl and Cole Streets meet. This intersection is still the heart of the neighborhood's small business area today. The N Judah light rail line, which is a type of streetcar, still stops there, making it easy to get around.

In the late 1990s, during a time called the "dot-com bubble," Cole Valley became a popular place for people working in new internet companies. One famous person who used to live here is Craig Newmark, who founded the popular website Craigslist.

Today, Cole Valley is home to many different kinds of people.
