About Colin Gibson's Football Career
Colin Gibson was born in Normanby, a town near Middlesbrough in England. His father moved to south Wales to work in the docks. This is where young Colin's football talent was first noticed.
Starting Out with Cardiff City
Colin was spotted playing for a local team in Penarth. Soon after, he joined Cardiff City. He helped Cardiff City win the Third Division South title in the 1946–47 season. This was a great start to his professional career.
Moving to Newcastle United
In 1948, Colin moved to Newcastle United. This team had just been promoted to the First Division, which was the top league at the time. Even though he played in almost every game, Colin left Newcastle in January 1949.
Playing for Aston Villa
After leaving Newcastle, Colin signed with Aston Villa. He played for Villa for seven years, from 1949 to 1956. During this time, he was recognized as a very good player. He even played for the Football League representative team against the League of Ireland XI in May 1949. His team won that game 5–0.
A few days later, he was also chosen to play for the "B" international level team. They played against the Netherlands A team and won 4–0. This showed that Colin was one of England's promising football talents.
Later Career and Retirement
In 1956, Colin joined Lincoln City, which was in the Second Division. He played there for about a year. After that, in 1957, he moved to non-league football. He joined Stourbridge, where he eventually finished his playing career.
