The Third Division South was an old football league in England. It was a professional league, meaning players were paid to play. It was the third-highest level of football in the English Football League system for many years. This league ran from 1921 until 1958.

The Third Division South existed at the same time as the Football League Third Division North. Teams were placed into one of these two leagues based on where they were located in England or Wales. If a team was in the south, it joined the Third Division South.

Teams could join the league in two main ways. Some teams were "elected" to join the league. This meant other clubs voted for them to become part of the league. Other teams were "relegated" from the Football League Second Division. This happened if they finished at the bottom of the league above.

Champions of the League

Every season, one team would win the Third Division South. Winning the league meant they were the best team that year. The champions would then get promoted to the Second Division. This was a big achievement for any club.
