Colne Brook facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Colne Brook is a small river in England. It's like a branch that splits off from a bigger river called the River Colne. The Colne Brook starts near Uxbridge Moor, which is on the western edge of Greater London. It then flows all the way to the famous River Thames. You can find its end point near Bell Weir Lock in a village called Wraysbury, in Berkshire.

Where Does the Colne Brook Flow?

The Colne Brook begins its journey at Uxbridge Moor. This area is part of the beautiful Colne Valley regional park. The brook flows west of the main River Colne. It passes by West Drayton.

Journey Through Towns and Under Motorways

The river then goes under the big M25 motorway. This happens near the M4 "Thorney interchange". After this, the Colne Brook enters the county of Berkshire. It flows right through the village of Colnbrook.

Water from Other Channels

South of Colnbrook, the river gets more water. This extra water comes from a channel called the Poyle Channel. After this, the Poyle Channel changes its name. It becomes the Wraysbury River. This river helps water the western part of Staines Moor.

Nearing the End

The Colne Brook then flows between two parts of Horton. One is the village centre. The other is a residential area on Coppermill Road. This area is next to the Wraysbury Reservoir. The very last part of the Colne Brook is in the easternmost area of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Meeting the Thames

The river passes Wraysbury railway station. It then flows next to some lakes. These lakes were made from gravel extraction near Wraysbury. These lakes are a special place for nature. They are called a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Finally, the Colne Brook flows into the River Thames. This meeting point is between the M25 Runnymede Bridge and Bell Weir Lock.
