Meet Colonel White
How Colonel White Was Created
The person who created the show, Gerry Anderson, explained how he chose the name "Colonel White." He said that all the other agents in the show had color names, like Captain Scarlet. When you mix all colors together, you get white. So, it made sense that their leader would be Colonel White.
The very first script for Captain Scarlet described Colonel White's look. It said he had "an odd mixture of youth and middle age." The puppet's face was actually made to look like Donald Gray, who was the voice actor for Colonel White.
Colonel White in the Original Series
In the first Captain Scarlet show, Colonel White usually stays at his round desk. This desk is in the control room of Cloudbase. He is almost always seen there.
He only leaves Cloudbase in a few episodes. These include "White as Snow" and "Spectrum Strikes Back". His helper is Lieutenant Green. Colonel White is very dedicated to his job. He expects his agents to follow rules. But he also trusts them completely to do their best.
We don't learn much about Colonel White's personal life in the original show. In the episode "White as Snow," he goes undercover. He uses the name Robert Snow. This is the only time he uses a name other than his Spectrum codename.
Colonel White in the New Series
In the 2005 remake, Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet, Colonel White has a more detailed background. He used to be a Royal Marine. He also worked for the SIS, which is a spy agency. He became a director there.
After that, he joined the UN Security Development Committee. This committee then created Spectrum. In this newer show, Colonel White moves around a lot more. He is often seen walking around Skybase, which is the new name for Cloudbase. He also travels to other places.
Colonel White has some interesting hobbies in the new series. He enjoys playing chess. He also likes fishing and fencing, which is a sport with swords. He is married to a woman named Diana. They have a daughter named Victoria. He also has a home on a large property in Gloucestershire, England.
