Colville Lake is a large lake located in Canada's Northwest Territories. It is the 20th biggest lake in this region. The lake is found about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of another big lake called Great Bear Lake. It is part of the Sahtu Region.
About Colville Lake
Colville Lake has a perimeter, or outer edge, that stretches for 121 kilometers (75 miles). Its total area covers about 439 square kilometers (169 square miles). This makes it a significant body of water in the northern part of Canada. The lake sits at an elevation of 245 meters (804 feet) above sea level.
The Community of Colville Lake
The only community located directly on the shores of Colville Lake is also named Colville Lake. This village is home to about 126 people. It is a Sahtu Dene village, meaning it is an important place for the Sahtu Dene First Nation people.
The village is found on the southeast shore of the lake. It also has two small airports nearby. These are the Colville Lake/Tommy Kochon Aerodrome and the Colville Lake Water Aerodrome. They help connect the community to other parts of the Northwest Territories.
