The Story of Comedy Works
Comedy Works started as the "Comedy Shoppe." In 1981, the owners George McKelvey, Doug Olson, and Edd Nichols changed its name to Comedy Works. They moved it to a new spot in Larimer Square. That September, Comedy Works became the first club in Denver to offer professional comedy shows all the time.
Since then, Comedy Works has grown a lot. The south club in Greenwood Village is much bigger. It has a restaurant, a lounge, and a large room for events. Both clubs have hosted many famous comedians over the years.

Many well-known comedians have performed at Comedy Works. Some of them even started their careers there! For example, Roseanne Barr, who is from Colorado, began doing stand-up at an open-mic night in 1980.

Who Owns Comedy Works?
The current owner of Comedy Works is Wende Curtis. She started working there as a waitress at a different location. After finishing college, Wende became a manager. She even helped turn around another Comedy Works club in Florida.
In 1993, she came back to Denver to manage the Larimer Square club. By 2003, Wende Curtis had become the sole owner of Comedy Works. Her hard work helped the clubs become very successful.
More Than Just Clubs
Comedy Works also has a part of its business called Comedy Works Entertainment. This group helps book comedy shows in bigger places. They put on concerts in large venues around Denver and other parts of Colorado. They also help manage the careers of some comedians, like Josh Blue.
