Comendador is a city in the Dominican Republic. It is the capital of the Elías Piña province. This city is located right on the border with Haiti. It has a border crossing point to the Haitian town of Belladère.

History of Comendador
The city was first named after its founder, who was called the "Comendador of Lares." A Comendador was a special leader of a military or religious group in the past.
On November 29, 1930, the city's name was changed to Elías Piña. This was done to honor a national hero. However, on May 29, 1972, a new law (Law 342) changed the city's name back to Comendador.
