A Look at Competition's History
This community wasn't always called Competition! When people first started settling here in the 1840s, it was known as "Newburg."
The name "Competition" came about in an interesting way. In 1858, a post office was opened in the area. To decide on a new name for the community, a "naming competition" was held. The name "Competition" won, and it stuck! The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1967.
