Con de Wet de Lange (born February 11, 1981 – died April 18, 2019) was a talented cricketer who played for Scotland. He was known as an "all-rounder" in cricket, meaning he was good at both batting and bowling. Con was a right-handed batsman and bowled with his left arm in a style called "slow left-arm orthodox spin." He was born in South Africa and started his professional cricket career there before moving to Scotland.

Con de Lange's Cricket Journey
Con de Lange began his professional cricket career in South Africa. He made his very first "first-class" cricket appearance in March 1998. This was for a team called Boland against the visiting Sri Lankan team.
Playing for Northamptonshire
Later in his career, Con de Lange moved to England. He played for the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club during the 2012 and 2013 cricket seasons. This was another important step in his journey as a professional cricketer.
International Career with Scotland
Con de Lange became a key player for the Scotland national cricket team. He started playing for Scotland in international matches in 2015.
First International Matches
His first international game was in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup against Afghanistan in June 2015. He also made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Scotland against Ireland on June 19, 2015. His first One Day International (ODI) game for Scotland was against Afghanistan on July 4, 2016.
Key Moments for Scotland
Con de Lange played in 13 ODIs and 8 T20Is for Scotland. He was even the team's vice-captain for the 2017 Desert T20 Challenge tournament in January 2017. One of his most memorable moments was in June 2017. He took five wickets for 60 runs against Zimbabwe. This helped Scotland win against a top-ranked team for the first time ever!
Battling Illness
After his big win against Zimbabwe, Con de Lange started missing games. At first, people thought he was having headaches. But when he returned to Scotland for more tests, doctors found a very serious health issue.
His Last Game
Con de Lange played his last international match for Scotland on November 25, 2017. It was an ODI game against Papua New Guinea.
A Difficult Diagnosis
In October 2018, Cricket Scotland announced that Con de Lange had been bravely fighting a serious illness for many months. He had undergone various treatments, including an operation, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Helping Others
Even while dealing with his own health challenges, Con de Lange and his wife, Claire, started a fundraising effort. It was called 'Brain Tumour Charity'. They did this to honor a close friend who had also passed away from a similar illness. As part of their efforts, they organized walks to collect donations and help others.
Con de Lange's Passing
Sadly, Con de Lange passed away on April 18, 2019, at the age of 38. He is remembered as a talented cricketer and a brave person who inspired many.
