The Confederate Memorial in Fulton, Kentucky, is a special monument. It features a 6-foot-tall (1.8 m) statue of a Confederate soldier. This statue stands on top of a unique arch. You can find this monument at the entrance to Fairview Cemetery.
This monument was built in 1902. It was paid for by a group called the Colonel Ed Crossland Chapter No. 347 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. This group helped remember and honor the Confederacy. What makes this monument so special is its arched base. It's made of rough limestone and is the only one like it in Kentucky.

What Does the Confederate Memorial Look Like?
The arch of the monument is 10 feet (3.0 m) high. On the back of the arch, it says "Erected by UDC 1902". This tells us who built it and when.
The Soldier Statue
The soldier statue on top is 6-foot-tall (1.8 m). It's made of zinc, which is a type of metal. The soldier wears a slouch hat. He also carries a canteen for water and a bed roll. He looks like he is resting, leaning on his rifle. This kind of soldier statue is common. However, having it on an arch makes Fulton's monument truly unique in Kentucky.
Special Details
Inside the arch, you can see the names of the officers from the United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter. These were the people who helped fund the monument. There are also parts of an old walkway around all four sides of the monument.
The monument was built many years after the American Civil War. Because of this, it was made to celebrate the Confederacy. Earlier monuments often had a sadder, "funeral" feeling. But this one was meant to honor the past. Behind the arch, there's a step with the letters "UCV". This stands for the United Confederate Veterans. The front step simply says "Confederate".
A Historic Landmark
On July 17, 1997, this monument became a nationally recognized landmark. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes important historical places across the United States. The Confederate Memorial in Fulton was one of 61 monuments from the Civil War in Kentucky to be added that day.
Another monument in Fulton County is also on this list. It's called the Confederate Memorial Gateway in Hickman. This gateway is about 20 miles (32 km) west in Hickman, Kentucky.
