History
The community of Congo got its name from an interesting part of history. A post office was opened here in 1892. It served the local people for a while before closing down in 1909.
The name "Congo" was chosen to remember the exciting journeys and expeditions made by David Livingstone. He was a famous Scottish explorer who traveled a lot in Africa. His adventures in the African Congo Basin were well-known around the world at that time. People in Alabama likely named this small community to honor those famous explorations.
