Coniston is a suburb located in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is a part of the larger Wollongong area. In 2021, about 2,267 people lived here.
Coniston is found just north of the Port Kembla Steelworks. It is also home to Greenhouse Park. This park was once a waste area but is now a natural space with a weather station. A local hill called "The Overseer" offers great views of the city and Port Kembla. Coniston is also next to the hill suburbs of Mangerton and Mount Saint Thomas.

History of Coniston
Coniston got its name from a British naval ship. This ship, called HMS Coniston, visited the Illawarra region in the early 1800s. Before that, the area was known as Mount Drummond. It was named after J. Drummond, who owned land there.
The Tharawal people were the first to live in this area. European settlers arrived in the early 1800s. Later, the land was used for farming and coal mining. In 1923, the Illawarra railway line was built. This helped Coniston grow into the residential suburb it is today.

Coniston is home to the Coniston Football Club. The younger players practice and play at McKinnon Park. The older players compete at J.J.Kelly Park.
The Coniston Football Club plays in the Illawarra Premier League. They even won the grand final in 2023!
