There is also a small area of bushland on top of the hill. Many of the homes in Mangerton have two storeys. You can reach Mangerton by using roads that branch off from the Princes Highway and The Avenue.

Mangerton's Geography

Mangerton is mostly built on a hill called Mount Mangerton. This hill is part of a larger group of hills. This group also includes Mount Saint Thomas, which is a slightly lower peak located south of Mangerton. From Mount Mangerton, you can enjoy great views of Wollongong city. The hill is directly south of Wollongong Hospital, which is on another hill called Hospital Hill. Because of these hills, the railway and highway had to curve around them instead of going in a straight line towards Unanderra.

Mangerton's History

In the past, Mangerton was known as 'Hospital Hill'. This was because it was very close to Wollongong's main hospital. Many doctors and their families used to live in this suburb. Even today, many medical professionals in the city still call Mangerton home.
