Connaught Battery is an old military fort located near Ferguson's Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was built during the time of World War I to help protect Halifax Harbour. The fort was named after the Duke of Connaught, who was the Governor General of Canada at that time. He was also a son of Queen Victoria.

Building the Fort: A Look Back

This fort was built between 1912 and 1917. It was part of a bigger plan to defend Halifax Harbour. Other forts like Fort George were also part of this defence system. Connaught Battery was the only new fort built by the military after 1905. It covered an area about the size of five football fields.

Halifax Harbour has always been important for ships and trade. Because of this, it has been a well-protected place for a long time. During World War II, the fort had three powerful 4.7-inch guns. These guns could fire quickly to protect the harbour.

Connaught Battery Today

Today, Connaught Battery is no longer used by the military. It is now a public park that anyone can visit. The strong concrete parts of the fort are still in good shape. You can explore the old fort and imagine what it was like during the wars.
