Conover is a town in Vilas County, Wisconsin, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,235 people lived there. A smaller area also called Conover is found within the town.

History of Conover
Conover got its name from Seth H. Conover. He loved to visit this area for hunting and fishing. Seth often traveled by train to this spot. Even though there was no train station, the railroad workers started calling it "Conover's Place."
Soon, a train station was built. This helped the area grow, and several logging camps were set up. More businesses opened, and the town continued to get bigger. In 1935, the town hall was built, which is where the local government works.
Geography of Conover
The Town of Conover is located in the middle of Vilas County, Wisconsin. The upper part of the Wisconsin River flows through the town. You can also find many lakes scattered across the area.
A large part of the western side of Conover is covered by Vilas County Forest lands. These are special areas of trees and nature. The town covers about 87.2 square miles (225.8 square kilometers) in total. Most of this area is land, but about 7.2 square miles (18.7 square kilometers) is water, mainly from its many lakes.
People in Conover
Based on the census from 2000, there were 1,137 people living in Conover. This means there were about 14.2 people for every square mile (5.5 people per square kilometer).
Most of the people living in Conover were White (98.77%). A small number of people were African American, Native American, or Asian. Some people were also from Hispanic or Latino backgrounds.
The average age of people in Conover was 44 years old. About 21.9% of the population was under 18 years old. About 20.4% of the people were 65 years old or older.
Getting Around Conover
Conover is served by two main highways that run north and south: USH 45 and STH 32. These roads go together through the middle of the town.
- Going North: The highways lead to Land o' Lakes and then into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
- Going South: They connect to Eagle River and other towns further south.
STH 17 also passes through a small part of the southeast corner of Conover. This road connects Eagle River and Phelps.
There are also two Vilas County Highways in Conover:
- CTH K: This road goes east and west through the center of town. It meets USH 45 and STH 32 in the community of Conover. CTH K also runs along the north shore of North Twin Lakes and connects to CTH E and the community of Phelps. It continues east through the Vilas County Forest towards Star Lake and Boulder Junction.
- CTH S: This road starts near Stormy Lake and goes north into the Town of Land o' Lakes. It serves the area around the Tamarack Flowage.
In winter, the Vilas County forest lands and roads become home to many snowmobile trails. These trails connect Conover to all the nearby communities, making it a fun place for winter sports.

Conover is a great place for outdoor activities because of its large forest lands.
- Outdoor Adventures: You can go camping, fishing, and hiking in the Vilas County forest lands.
- Water Sports: The Wisconsin River flows through the town and is popular for canoeing and kayaking.
- Canoe and Kayak Race: Every summer, a special charity race called the Callie Rohr Memorial Canoe and Kayak race is held on the river.
- Summer Camp: Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, a summer camp, is located in Conover. It's on the shore of Upper Buckatabon Lake.
