Contao is a small village in the southern part of Chile. It is located on the southeastern coast of the Reloncaví Sound, which is a large body of water. In 2017, about 671 people lived in Contao.
Contao is found along the northern section of the Carretera Austral. This famous highway helps people travel through the beautiful southern regions of Chile.
History of Contao
Long ago, when Chile was a colony, Contao was an important place for cutting down trees. People would harvest wood from Fitzroya trees here. These are very large and old trees found in this part of the world.
Getting to Contao
The village has its own airport, called Contao Airport. This makes it easier for people to visit or travel from Contao.
