The Conus monile, also known as the necklace cone, is a type of sea snail. These amazing creatures are marine gastropod molluscs and belong to the Conidae family, which includes all the cone snails.

Just like other cone snails, the necklace cone is a predatory animal. This means it hunts and eats other creatures. It is also venomous, which means it can sting. Because of their venom, it's very important to be careful around live cone snails. You should never touch them!

What Does the Necklace Cone Look Like?

The shell of an adult necklace cone can be anywhere from about 4.5 cm to 9.5 cm long. The top part of its shell, called the spire, is mostly flat. It has a slightly raised tip, known as the apex.

The main part of the shell, called the body whorl, has fine lines near the bottom. It often has a brownish color at its base. The shell itself is usually white. It has cool patterns like brown flames, spots, and short lines that go all the way around it, almost like a necklace!

You can find the necklace cone in the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean. They live off the coasts of countries like India and Sri Lanka. You can also find them in the waters near Western Thailand.
