The Convergence of Democrats of Navarre (Spanish: Convergencia de Demócratas de Navarra, CDN) was a political party in Navarre, a special region in Spain. This party focused on the needs and unique identity of Navarre. It was also known as Navarrese Democratic Convergence.
The CDN party started in 1995. It was formed by people who left another party called the Navarrese People's Union (UPN). This happened because the UPN party joined a bigger, more traditional Spanish party. The new CDN party was led by Juan Cruz Alli, who used to be the President of Navarre.
The CDN believed in a few key ideas. They supported Christian democracy, which means they mixed Christian values with democratic ways of governing. They also believed in Navarrese regionalism, which meant they wanted Navarre to have a strong identity and special powers within Spain. Another idea was Foralism, which meant they supported Navarre's special historical laws and rights. The party was generally seen as being in the Centre-right of politics.
Between 2003 and 2009, the CDN party was part of the government in Navarre. They worked together with the UPN party. In the elections held in May 2011, the CDN party did not win any seats in the Parliament of Navarre. Because of this, the party decided to break up and stopped existing.
What is a Political Party?
A political party is a group of people who share similar ideas about how a country or region should be run. They work together to get their members elected to government. Their goal is to make decisions and create laws that match their beliefs.
Navarre is an autonomous community in Spain. This means it has its own government and parliament, similar to how a state works in some countries. The Parliament of Navarre is where elected representatives make laws for the region. The CDN party aimed to have its members in this parliament to represent the people of Navarre.
