Cook's Bay is found in the southern part of Lake Simcoe. Most of its southern area is within the town of Georgina. This town is part of the Regional Municipality of York. The western side of the bay is in Simcoe County. A small part near the Holland River is in Bradford West Gwillimbury. The biggest town right on the bay's edge is Keswick.
How Did Cook's Bay Get Its Name?
The bay was named by John Graves Simcoe. He was the very first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. He named the bay after James Cook, a famous explorer. James Cook had worked as a master on a ship called HMS Pembroke in 1759. The ship's captain was John Simcoe, who was the father of the Lieutenant-Governor.
