History of Copella
The story of Copella began with a woman named Devora Peake. She was born in Tel Aviv and moved to the Suffolk countryside in the UK in the 1930s. With her husbands, she started a farm. They grew and sold soft fruits like berries.
How the Juice Started
After farming for about 30 years, Devora's family decided to try something new. They bought a special machine called a fruit press. With this machine, they started making their very first juice: fresh apple juice. This juice was special because it wasn't made from concentrate and had no extra water. They named this new juice 'Copella'.
What Does the Name Mean?
The name 'Copella' is a mix of two things. It comes from the first letters of "Cox's Orange Pippins." This is a type of apple that was often used in their juice. The second part of the name comes from the last part of Devora Peake's youngest daughter's name, CarmELLA.
Growing the Business
When Copella first started, its juice was seen as a special, healthy drink. It was sold in green glass bottles in fancy food shops and health food shops. Over time, the company grew bigger. In 1994, Copella launched a new line of chilled juices. These were 100% pure pressed apple juice and blends of different apple juices. They also started selling the juice in clear plastic bottles and introduced a new logo.
New Owners
In 1998, Tropicana bought the Copella company. Then, in 1999, PepsiCo bought Tropicana. This means Copella became part of the much larger PepsiCo family of brands.
