About the Corb River
The Corb river is about 57 kilometers (35 miles) long. It starts high up, at about 762 meters (2,500 feet) above sea level. Even though it's not a huge river, its water is very important for the area it flows through.
Where the Corb River Begins
The Corb river starts from a spring (a natural place where water comes out of the ground) near a village called Rauric. This village is located in central Catalonia, just west of the town of Santa Coloma de Queralt.
The Journey of the Corb River
From its source, the Corb river flows mainly towards the west. It passes by several small villages and towns, including:
- Llorac
- Vallfogona de Riucorb
- Guimerà
- Ciutadilla
- Nalec
- Rocafort de Vallbona
- Sant Martí de Maldà
- Maldà
- Belianes
After passing Belianes, the river turns north. In this area, the water from the Corb river is used for irrigation. This means the water is directed into a network of canals to help farmers water their crops. Because so much water is used, the river sometimes seems to disappear into these canals.
Where the Corb River Ends
Further along its path, near the town of Bellpuig, the river's original course collects water again. It then flows west until it reaches the Segre river at Vilanova de la Barca. This meeting point is north-east of the city of Lleida. The Segre river then flows into the Ebro, which is one of Spain's biggest rivers. The Ebro river eventually reaches the Mediterranean Sea in the far south of Catalonia.
