How CoreFirst Bank & Trust Started
CoreFirst Bank & Trust first opened its doors on December 3, 1959. Back then, it was called Commerce State Bank. In 1976, the bank got permission to offer trust services. This means they could manage money or property for others. After this, they changed their name to Commerce Bank & Trust.
In 1988, Commerce Bank & Trust started opening branches inside grocery stores. This made banking more convenient for people. Their first location outside of Topeka opened in Emporia, Kansas, in 1997. By 2004, the bank had grown a lot. Its total assets, which is all the money and property it owns, reached $1 billion.
Growing and Changing
In July 2007, Commerce Bank & Trust changed its name again. It became CoreFirst Bank & Trust. This new name helped them grow and open branches in new places. They wanted to expand beyond their original area in Topeka, Kansas.
In September 2007, CoreFirst opened its first location in Englewood, Colorado. This was a big step for the bank. Later that same year, they opened a branch in Shawnee, Kansas. This was their first location in the Kansas City, Kansas area. Since 2007, CoreFirst has opened two more branches in the Kansas City area. Today, CoreFirst has 15 branches in total, across Kansas and Colorado.
