A Look Back in Time
The Coreen Post Office first opened its doors on January 1, 1900. It helped people send letters and packages for many years. However, it closed down in 1976.
A local person named Mr. W. A. Martin bought a special permit to sell drinks in 1912. He then built the Coreen Hotel, which opened in 1913. This hotel became a central spot for the community.
Sports and Fun in Coreen
Coreen is well-known for its love of sports, especially Australian Rules Football!
The Coreen Football Club
The Coreen Football Club started way back in 1906. They joined the Federal Football Association and played there until 1908. In 1909, they moved to the Coreen & District Football Association.
The Coreen Settler's Team
Between 1910 and 1915, Coreen even had a second team called the Coreen Settler's FC. This team was made up of players from a special land settlement in the Coreen area that began in 1907. The Coreen Settler's FC was very successful, winning championships in 1913 and 1914!
Winning Streaks
The main Coreen FC team was incredibly good in the 1920s and 1930s. They played in nine championship games in a row from 1924 to 1931! They won three of these championships in 1926, 1929, and 1930.
They continued to win many more championships in the Coreen & DFA. They won in 1933, 1946, 1947, 1951, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1980, 1987, and 1991. That's ten more championships!
New Teams and Mergers
In 1995, the Coreen FC joined with another team, Daysdale FC. They played together as the Coreen Daysdale United FC until 2005.
Then, in 2006, Coreen Daysdale United FC teamed up with Hopefield Buraja FC. They formed a new club called the Coreen Daysdale Hopefield Buraja United "Saints" FC (CDHBUFC). This new team immediately won championships in 2006 and 2007!
In 2008, the Coreen & District Football League stopped operating. So, CDHBUFC joined the Hume Football League. Today, they are known as "The Power" and wear cool black, white, and teal blue uniforms.
