The Federation Council is a special area in New South Wales, Australia. It's like a local government area, which means it helps manage things for the people living there. This council was created in 2016. It was formed when two smaller areas, the Corowa Shire and the Urana Shire, joined together.
The Federation Council covers a large area of about 5,685 square kilometres. It includes the towns of Corowa and Mulwala. It also includes many farms and rural areas. The Murray River forms its southern border, separating it from the state of Victoria. When it was first formed, about 12,602 people lived in the council area.
The first Mayor of Federation Council was Patrick Bourke. He was chosen by the other councillors in September 2017.

How the Council Works
The Federation Council is made up of nine councillors. These councillors are chosen by the people living in the area through a special voting system. They are elected for a four-year term. Their job is to make decisions that help the community.
Before the first councillors were elected, a person called an administrator managed the council. This was Mike Eden, a former professional rugby league player. The first elections for the council were held on 9 September 2017. The most recent election was on 4 December 2021.
A Bit of History
The Federation Council was created by the Government of New South Wales. This happened as part of a plan to make local governments work better. Between 2013 and 2016, the government looked at all the local councils in New South Wales. They checked how many people lived there, how well they managed their money, and other important things.
Councils that were not doing well were asked to suggest another council to join with. Both Corowa and Urana shires wanted to join with each other. Another council, Lockhart Shire, also wanted to join with Urana Shire.
In December 2015, the Minister for Local Government suggested that all three councils should merge. However, all three councils did not agree with this idea. Some people in Mulwala even said they would try to join a different council if the three-way merger happened.
Corowa Shire then suggested a different plan: just Corowa and Urana shires should merge. Even though Urana Shire still had some objections, the Minister agreed to this plan. The Federation Council officially started on 12 May 2016.
