Mulwala (pronounced mul-WAY-lə) is a town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. It sits right on Lake Mulwala, which is a lake made by people. This lake was formed when the Murray River was dammed.
Mulwala is known as a "twin town" because it's right next to Yarrawonga, a bigger town across the border in Victoria. In 2021, about 2,557 people lived in Mulwala. The town's name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'rain'.
This town is a popular spot for fun water activities and fishing. Many visitors come from Melbourne, which is about 300 kilometers (186 miles) south. Mulwala also has three big clubs that are popular places to visit.

Mulwala's Past
The history of Mulwala began in 1847. A man named James McRae came to the area. He managed two large farming stations called "Mulwala" and "Boroge." McRae built a special boat called a punt to cross the river. He also opened a public house, which was like an inn or hotel. In 1853, his hotel, called the Travellers' Rest Hotel, got its official license.
In 1858, a surveyor named Adams planned out the town. A new hotel opened in Mulwala in 1866, and a school was also started. The Mulwala Post Office first opened in 1864 but closed quickly due to a big fire. It reopened on June 1, 1866. James McRae, one of the first settlers, passed away in 1866.
By 1872, Mulwala was a small town with about 100 people. It had a church, a school, a post office, and a public house. In 1887, the town had two hotels and two stores. A courthouse was built, and a sawmill started operating.
In 2013, a strong tornado hit Mulwala. More than 20 people were hurt. Many buildings and homes were damaged. A caravan park near Mulwala was hit very hard. Most of the caravans there were completely ruined.

The Mulwala Football Club was started in 1882. They play at the Lonsdale Reserve. This team is part of the Murray Football Netball League. They have won 8 championships, which shows they are a very successful club! For cricket, the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club plays in the local games. This club is based in Yarrawonga.
