Corey Phillip Paris is an American politician. He works in the Connecticut House of Representatives. This is a part of the state government that helps make laws for Connecticut. He represents the 145th district. Mr. Paris first took office on May 4, 2021. He was elected again in November 2022.
Corey Paris: Early Life and Education
Corey Paris was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. His grandparents raised him in Kansas City, Kansas. He went to Western Connecticut State University. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He was also the president of the Student Government Association.
In 2013, Mr. Paris interned for the Clinton Global Initiative. This group works on solving big world problems. He also earned a Master of Public Administration degree. This degree is from the University of New Haven. Before becoming a politician, he worked to help children. He was a chief development officer for Children's Learning Centers of Fairfield County. In April 2024, he became the chief impact officer at Person-to-Person. This group helps families with food, money, and education.
Making a Difference in Government
Corey Paris was once the president of the Connecticut Young Democrats. He also worked for an organization called People for the American Way. He was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives on April 27, 2021. He won with 76% of the votes. He officially started his job on May 4, 2021. He is the first African American man to represent the 145th district.
During his first time in the legislature, he joined important committees. These included the Appropriations, Education, and Environmental committees. He was re-elected on November 8, 2022, with 75% of the votes. He started his second term on January 4, 2023. He was chosen to be the Majority Caucus Chair for the House Democratic group.
His committee roles now include Education and Higher Education & Employment Advancement. He also rejoined the Appropriations committee as vice chair. Mr. Paris also helps lead the bipartisan Future Caucus. This group brings together politicians from different parties.
During his second term, Mr. Paris focused on important issues. These included helping people without homes. He also worked to support first responders. He pushed for universal early childhood education. He also worked on student loan forgiveness. He introduced a bill to help Connecticut residents with student loan debt. This bill had support from both major political parties.
Mr. Paris also worked on improving education. He helped make financial literacy a required subject for public school graduation. He has received many honors for his leadership. These include being named a 100 Men of Color Honoree. He was also recognized as a Champion by Connecticut Voices for Children in 2022. The NAACP also listed him among the Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut.
In 2023, the Council of State Governments (CSG) honored Mr. Paris. He received a "20 Under 40 Leadership Award." This award recognizes young leaders across the country. Mr. Paris is also the vice chair of the Mayor’s Multicultural Council. He serves on the boards of the Stamford Partnership and the Ferguson Library.

In April 2024, Corey Paris announced his engagement to Symphonie Privett. She is a morning news anchor and reporter for Fox 61. Ms. Privett is known for her excellent journalism. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for hosting Fox 61's Juneteenth Special. She grew up in a Navy family. Her childhood took her to many places around the world. She graduated from Arkansas State University. The couple met in 2022 and started dating in 2023. They live in Stamford, Connecticut.
