Corey Donte Ray, born on September 22, 1994, is an American former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder who played one game in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021. After his playing career, he became a baseball coach.

Corey Ray's Early Baseball Journey

Corey Ray grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He went to Simeon Career Academy for high school. In 2012, before his senior year, he played in the Under Armour All-American Game. This game features top high school baseball players.

College Baseball at Louisville

The Seattle Mariners drafted Corey in 2013. However, he chose not to sign with them. Instead, he decided to play college baseball. He attended the University of Louisville and played for the Louisville Cardinals.

As a freshman in 2014, Corey played in 43 games. He hit for a .325 batting average. He also hit one home run and had 17 runs batted in (RBI). After this season, he played summer baseball. He joined the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

In 2015, during his sophomore year, he started all 65 games. He hit 11 home runs and had 56 RBI. He also stole 34 bases. In one exciting game against Wake Forest, Corey stole home base. This play won the game for Louisville in the ninth inning. That summer, he also played for the United States collegiate national team.

Corey Ray's Professional Career

In the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, the Milwaukee Brewers picked Corey Ray. He was the fifth player chosen overall. He signed with the Brewers and began his professional career.

Starting in the Minor Leagues

Corey played for two teams in his first professional season. He played for the Brevard County Manatees and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He hit five home runs and stole ten bases that year.

In 2017, he played for the Carolina Mudcats. He hit seven home runs and stole 24 bases. The next year, 2018, he played for the Biloxi Shuckers. This was a Double-A team. He had a great season, hitting 27 home runs and stealing 37 bases. Because of his excellent performance, he won the Southern League Most Valuable Player Award.

In 2019, Corey started with the San Antonio Missions. This was a Triple-A team. He missed some time that season due to an injury. He hit seven home runs in 53 games.

Making it to the Major Leagues

In November 2019, the Brewers added Corey to their 40-man roster. This protected him from being picked by another team. He did not play in 2020. This was because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 24, 2021, Corey Ray was called up to the major leagues. He made his MLB debut that same day. He entered the game as a pinch hitter. He got a walk and scored a run. He then played in right field.

In June 2022, Corey was sent to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. He played 75 games for Nashville and Biloxi. He hit 13 home runs and had 44 RBI. After the season, he became a free agent.

Corey Ray's Coaching Career

After his playing career, Corey Ray moved into coaching.

In March 2023, the Chicago Cubs hired him. He became the bench coach for their Single-A team, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

Then, in February 2024, Corey was named a manager. He became the manager for the Chicago Cubs' rookie-level team. This team is called the Arizona Complex League Cubs.
