Corinth is a ghost town located in Van Zandt County, Texas. A ghost town is a place where most people have left, leaving behind empty buildings. Corinth is about 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Canton.

History of Corinth

Corinth was an important stop for stagecoaches. From 1848 to 1873, stagecoaches traveling between Marshall and Dallas would stop here. This made Corinth a busy place for travelers.

Early Schools and Post Office

The first school in Corinth opened in 1849. Education was important to the early settlers. Later, in 1888, a post office was established in the community. At that time, the town was known by a different name: Hatton.

Name Change and Later Years

The post office in Hatton closed in 1906. After it closed, the community was renamed Corinth. The town continued to have a school for many years, from 1890 until 1940. In 1940, the school joined with the Grand Saline Independent School District.

What Remains Today

By 1981, most of Corinth was gone. All that remained were its church, its cemetery, and a few scattered homes. These are the last reminders of the once-active stagecoach stop.
