A Special Holiday: The Burning of Judas
One of the most famous traditions in Coripe is called Quema de Judas. This means "Burning of Judas" in English. It happens every year on Easter Sunday. This day is also known as the Sunday of Resurrection.
During this holiday, the people of Coripe create a large rag doll. This doll is made to look like a person. Each year, the town chooses a different figure to represent with the doll. The doll is then paraded through the streets. After the parade, the doll is shot and then burned. This tradition is a way for the community to come together. It is a very old custom that has been celebrated for many years.
