Cornelius Bumpus (born May 7, 1945 – died February 3, 2004) was a talented American musician. He played many instruments, including the saxophone, flute, and keyboards. He was also a singer. Cornelius was from Santa Cruz, California.

About Cornelius Bumpus
His Early Musical Journey
Cornelius Bumpus started playing music at a young age. When he was just ten years old, he began playing the alto saxophone in his school band. By age twelve, he was already performing at local dances.
He went to Santa Cruz High School. There, he continued to play in the band. He even won a special award called the John Philip Sousa Award. Cornelius also had his own band, called Corny and the Corvettes. They played at school dances.
Playing with Famous Bands
After high school, Cornelius joined Bobby Freeman's band in 1966. This was the start of his career with many well-known music groups. He was mostly known for playing the saxophone and the organ.
Cornelius toured with two very famous bands: The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. He played with Steely Dan for a long time, from 1993 to 2003. He also worked on a music project called Big Blue Earth in 2002. In the 1980s, he played in a band called Café Society. He was part of their horn section.
His Own Music
In 1981, Cornelius Bumpus released his first solo album. It was called A Clear View. On this album, he showed off his singing, songwriting, and saxophone skills. The album featured long, jazzy songs.
A Sad Farewell
On February 3, 2004, Cornelius Bumpus sadly passed away. He had a heart attack while on an airplane flight. The plane made an emergency landing in Sioux City, Iowa. However, he died before getting medical help. Cornelius was 58 years old.
