Coronaca is a small community in Greenwood County, South Carolina, United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2020, about 156 people lived in Coronaca.
History of Coronaca
Coronaca has some interesting history. A historic place called The Oaks is located here. In 2010, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical site that is protected.
In the mid-1970s, a strong tornado hit Coronaca. It caused damage to the local church and a few houses in the area.
Geography and Location
Coronaca is located in the northern part of Greenwood County. You can find it at these coordinates: 34°15′46″N 82°5′33″W / 34.26278°N 82.09250°W.
U.S. Route 221 runs along the southeastern edge of Coronaca. This road can take you about 6 miles (10 km) southwest to Greenwood, which is the main town of the county. If you go north on the same road, you'll reach Laurens, which is about 20 miles (32 km) away.
The United States Census Bureau says that Coronaca covers a total area of about 1.7 square miles (4.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part being water.
