History of Corral de Bustos
How the Town Started
The town of Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger began in the early 1900s. A German man named Carlos Von Ifflinger asked the government for permission. He wanted to create a town named after him. The government agreed on November 14, 1901. This date is now known as the town's founding day. At first, the town was only what is now called Barrio Ifflinger.
Early Developments
In July 1902, a train service started. The train station was named Corral de Bustos. This name came from an old Native American site. It was located south of Chañar Ladeado. Around that time, a railway worker bought some land. It was south of the train tracks. The railway company then made streets and started selling plots of land. One of the first buildings there is now the DGI office. It is in the town center. Also, a school opened, which is now Hipólito Yrigoyen. A post office and a police station also started. The town hall was built too.
Changes in the 1930s and 1940s
By the 1930s, Juan Perez Crespo became the local leader. He started to change the town's look. In his first time as mayor, he made houses have shorter fronts. He also built brick sidewalks. He helped build the church's gothic front and tower.
In 1942, during his second time as mayor, Crespo opened many new projects. These big projects helped Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger become a city 33 years later. Some of these projects included:
- An abattoir (a place where animals are prepared for meat)
- A market
- The first swimming pool in City Park
He also started paving the main streets. Corral de Bustos was the first town in southern Cordoba with paved streets.
Growth and Entertainment
Local businesses started to grow in the 1960s. Several factories began sending their products to Europe and Latin America.
In the 1970s, the Provincial Casino was finished. Many carnivals and folk festivals happened. This made the town a fun place for people to visit at night. It became a popular spot for people from nearby areas. Today, the town is still a lively place. People from surrounding regions come on weekends. They enjoy the Casino, nightclubs, and many bars.
