After the railway was built, the timber industry became very important in Corrigan. There were many large pine trees in the area. The railway made it easy to transport the wood. By 1882, there were 17 sawmills around Corrigan. The timber business helped other businesses open up. These included churches, stores, and hotels. A post office also opened in 1883.

Over time, Corrigan's economy became more diverse. This helped the town survive when the timber industry faced tough times. However, the timber industry always remained a key part of Corrigan's economy. It shaped how the town developed. In 2000, there were 114 businesses operating in Corrigan.
