History of Cottageville
Cottageville became an official town in 1937. The people living there wanted their own post office, which helped them get organized as a town.
In 2011, there was a legal case involving the town's former mayor, Bert Reeves, and a police officer. This event led to changes in the town's police department. The family of the former mayor later won a large amount of money in a lawsuit against the town.
While he was mayor, Bert Reeves made some changes to the Cottageville police department. He reduced the number of police officers from six to three. He also worked to make sure the police department did not rely too much on money from speeding tickets.
