In 1878, Cove Gap was home to about 50 people. It was a small but active place. Later, in 1923, a post office opened in Cove Gap, which was important for sending and receiving mail. This post office served the community for many years before closing in 1938.

Famous Birthplace

One of the most interesting things about Cove Gap is that it's home to Buchanan's Birthplace State Park. This park honors James Buchanan, who was born nearby on April 23, 1791. James Buchanan later became the 15th President of the United States. The park helps people remember his early life in this area.
