About Craig MacGregor
Early Life and Music
Craig MacGregor was born in Iowa on September 13, 1949. He loved music from a young age. He started playing the piano when he was seven. Later, he switched to the trumpet and then the drums.
After playing drums for three years, Craig decided to play the bass guitar. He wanted to be more visible on stage while performing. As a teenager, he played in many local bands in Connecticut. One of these bands, called Swan, became somewhat successful. They even toured around the United States.
Joining Foghat and Other Bands
Craig joined the band Foghat in 1976. He took the place of their temporary bass player, Nick Jameson. His first recording with Foghat was on their 1976 album, Night Shift. He stayed with the band until 1982. During this time, he played on many popular albums. These included the very successful Live (1977), Stone Blue (1978), and Boogie Motel (1979).
He left Foghat in 1982. However, he rejoined them sometimes when the band got back together in the mid-1980s. This continued until the original band members reunited in 1993. During these years, Craig also played and recorded with other musicians. He worked with bands like Randy and the Radiants and the Kneetremblers. The Kneetremblers included other Foghat members, Roger Earl and Erik Cartwright. He also played with Buck Dharma.
In 1991, Craig and his wife, Lisa, moved to Fleetwood, Pennsylvania. They later moved to Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, in the mid-1990s.
Later Years and Advocacy
Craig MacGregor rejoined Foghat in 2005. This happened after their original bass player, Tony Stevens, left the band.
In 2015, Craig found out he had lung cancer. He became a strong supporter for a new law. This law would make sure doctors told patients all their medical test results quickly. Even though he was still officially part of Foghat, he stopped performing live in August 2015. Another musician, Rodney O'Quinn, took his place on stage.
Craig MacGregor passed away from lung cancer at his home in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. He was 68 years old.
