A Look at Crainville's History
Crainville is one of the oldest mining towns in Williamson County. It was named after James M. Crain. He was the person who first officially planned out the village.
The village was first called "Crain City." But on June 28, 1881, it officially became the village of Crainville. A post office opened in Crainville in 1888. However, it closed in 1914. Now, people in Crainville get their mail from the post office in nearby Carterville.
