History of Crandull
Crandull played an important role in the past because of its connection to a railroad. It was the very end point, or "terminus," of the Beaver Dam Railroad. This railroad was built starting from Damascus, Virginia.
The main purpose of the Beaver Dam Railroad was to serve the Empire Lumber and Mining Company. This company had a large mill in Crandull. A mill is a place where raw materials, like trees, are processed into useful products. The railroad helped transport lumber and other materials to and from the mill.
