Cris's Club Career Highlights
Starting His Football Journey
Cris began his football career playing for Corinthians in São Paulo from 1995 to 1998. After that, he joined Cruzeiro. While at Cruzeiro, he played his first game for the Brazilian national team in 1999. In 2000, a Brazilian magazine called Placar named Cris the best player in his position.
In 2002, Cris moved to Europe to play for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. However, he found it hard to get used to the new country and team. So, the next year, he went back to Brazil and rejoined Cruzeiro. That year, Cruzeiro won the Brazilian championship.
Success with Lyon
In August 2004, Cris left Brazil again, this time to play for Lyon in France. He quickly became a key player in Lyon's defense. In his first season with Lyon, the team won the league championship. Cris was even chosen for the best team of the year in Ligue 1.
His second season was also amazing. Cris continued to play very well, proving he was a top-class defender. He was named "Gold Star" by France Football magazine. The newspaper L'Equipe also thought he was the best defender of the 2005–06 season. Because of his great performance, he got a better salary and extended his contract with Lyon. He stayed with the French club until 2012.
For the 2007–08 season, Cris was chosen as the new captain of Lyon. He led the team with his strong presence on the field. Cris faced some injuries during his time at Lyon, including a knee injury in 2007 and a calf injury in 2012. Despite these setbacks, he always worked hard to return to the game.
Later Career Moves
On September 3, 2012, after eight successful years with Lyon, Cris moved to Turkey. He signed with Galatasaray. He scored his first goal for Galatasaray in October 2012. However, after only four months, his contract was ended.
Cris then returned to Brazil in January 2013 and signed with Grêmio. He joined the team as a replacement for another player who had left. On July 31, 2013, Cris signed with Vasco da Gama. He played his first game for them against Grêmio. Cris left Vasco da Gama in January 2014 when his contract was not renewed.
Playing for Brazil
Cris played 17 games for the Brazilian national team. His first game was in July 2001. He missed the 2002 World Cup because of an ankle injury. Cris was part of the Brazilian team that won their seventh Copa América title in 2004. He was also chosen for the 2006 FIFA World Cup team.
In November 2009, he was called back to the national team for friendly games. This was a surprise, as he had not played for the team since 2006. Cris scored his only goal for Brazil in a 6–0 friendly win against Bolivia on January 31, 2002.

After his playing career, Cris became a football manager. He managed the under-19 team for Lyon from 2016 to 2019. He then managed GOAL FC from 2019 to 2021. After that, he managed Le Mans from 2021 to 2022, and Versailles from 2022 to 2023. As of 2024, he is managing Châteauroux.
