Cristina Hoyos Panadero (born 13 June 1946) is a famous Spanish flamenco dancer, choreographer, and actress. She was born in Seville, Spain. Cristina had a very successful career all over the world. In 1988, she started her own dance company, which first performed in Paris. She also had a big part in the opening and closing shows of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Cristina Hoyos's Amazing Dance Journey

Cristina Hoyos started dancing when she was just twelve years old. She performed in a children's show called Galas Juveniles. Her teachers, Adelita Domingo and Enrique el Cojo, helped her love for dance grow even more.

Joining Antonio Gades's Ballet Company

In 1969, Cristina joined the ballet company of Antonio Gades. She worked with them for more than twenty years! During this time, she traveled the world, showing off her incredible dance skills. She also starred in three famous films: Blood Wedding, Carmen, and El amor brujo. In 1983, Cristina played the main role of Carmen in a ballet show in Paris. Everyone loved her performance!

Starting Her Own Dance Company

After 1988, Cristina Hoyos also appeared in movies and TV shows. In 1989, her new dance company performed their first show, Sueños Flamencos, at the Paris Festival. A year later, her flamenco company made history. They were the first flamenco group to perform at the famous Paris Opera House! They also performed at the Stockholm Opera. Cristina even helped create the dances for a show called Carmen at London's Covent Garden.

Performing at Big Events

Cristina performed at the Seville Expo '92 in shows like Yerma and Lo Flamenco. She was also a key performer at the opening and closing ceremonies in Barcelona in 1992. That same year, she brought her show Caminos Andaluces to a theater in Paris.

New Shows and Choreography

In 1996, Cristina created the dances for Cuadro Flamenco at the Opéra de Nice. She also choreographed the movie The Hunchback. Later in 1996, she launched her new show, Arsa y Toma, in France. The costumes for this show were designed by the famous designer Christian Lacroix.

In 1999, her dance company presented Al Compás del Tiempo. Cristina also choreographed The Fígaro Marriages. In 2001, she played Carmen again in a show called Carmen 2, le retour.

Leading the Andalusian Ballet of Flamenco

In 2002, Cristina presented Tierra Adentro, which won an award for Best Performance. She also performed Yerma in front of more than 60,000 people at the Alhambra. In 2004, Cristina was chosen to lead the Andalusian Ballet of Flamenco. A year later, she presented A Trip to the South. In 2006, she traveled the world with her show Romancero Gitano, which was based on the writings of Federico García Lorca.

Cristina's Personal Life

Cristina Hoyos is married to Juan Antonio Jiménez. They first met when they were both dancing with the Antonio Gades Ballet Company.

In 1997, Cristina had a health challenge but bravely recovered. Her story of fighting and overcoming this challenge was shared in a book called ¡Ánimo p'alante! by Ángel López del Castillo.
