María Cristina Álvarez Rodríguez (born December 28, 1967) is an Argentine architect and politician. She is known for her work in the government of Buenos Aires Province and for being the great-niece of the famous Argentine figure Eva Perón.
As a politician, she is part of the Justicialist Party, which follows the ideas of Peronism. Currently, she serves as the Minister of Government for Buenos Aires Province, working with Governor Axel Kicillof. Before this, she was a National Deputy, representing her province in the Argentina's national congress.
Early Life and Education
Cristina Álvarez Rodríguez was born in the city of Buenos Aires. She was interested in design and building from a young age. In 1992, she earned a degree in architecture from the University of Buenos Aires.
A decade later, in 2002, she also completed a master's degree. She studied photography at the University of Palermo.
Political Career
Rodríguez began her career in public service in 2000. She started as the Director of the Historical Archives for the Province of Buenos Aires. This job involved taking care of important historical documents.
Over the next few years, she held several important positions:
- 2001: She became President of the Institute of Social Welfare, helping to provide support to people in the province.
- 2002: She was named Secretary of Culture, where she promoted arts and cultural activities.
- 2003-2005: She led the Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires.
- 2005-2007: She served as a National Deputy for the first time. During this period, she worked on committees related to city affairs, culture, and the environment.
- 2007: She was appointed Minister of Infrastructure for Buenos Aires Province, overseeing public works projects like roads and buildings.
- 2011: She became the Minister of Government, a role she returned to in 2021.
- 2015-2021: She served another term as a National Deputy, representing the people of her province at the national level.
