About Crumbs and Whiskers Cafes
Crumbs and Whiskers has two main locations. Each cafe offers a fun way to meet cats. You can also enjoy drinks and snacks while you visit.
Washington, D.C. Cafe
The first Crumbs and Whiskers cat cafe opened in Washington, D.C., on June 20, 2015. It was the very first cat cafe in the Washington metropolitan area. This cafe works with a group called Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.
The D.C. cafe is a temporary home for about 20 to 25 cats at a time. Homeward Trails makes sure the cats are healthy and have their shots. Then, Crumbs and Whiskers takes care of them until they find a forever home.
Los Angeles Cafe
The Los Angeles cafe opened later, on September 30, 2016. It was the first cat cafe in the Los Angeles area. This cafe partners with Stray Cat Alliance. This is another animal rescue group based in Los Angeles.
Just like the D.C. cafe, the Los Angeles location gives cats a safe place to live. They stay there until someone adopts them.
Visiting a Cat Cafe
If you want to visit Crumbs and Whiskers, you need to book your visit online. There is a set price to get in. This helps cover the costs of caring for the cats.
How Crumbs and Whiskers Started
The founder of Crumbs and Whiskers is a person named Kanchan Singh. She decided to get money for her idea through crowdfunding. This means asking many people for small amounts of money.
Kickstarter Campaign
Kanchan used a website called Kickstarter. She hoped to raise $15,000 to start the business. She wasn't sure if she could reach her goal.
But people loved the idea! The project reached its goal in less than a day. It even doubled the amount before the deadline. In the end, 705 people helped. They raised a total of $35,881 for the cafe. This money helped make Crumbs and Whiskers a reality.
