Cuba was once a small community, or what we call a 'former settlement,' located in Merced County, California. A former settlement is a place where people used to live, but it's no longer considered an active town or village.
This spot was situated along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. It was about 2.25 miles (3.62 km) east-northeast of a town called Atwater. Cuba was located at an elevation of 167 feet (51 meters) above sea level.
Even though it's no longer a settlement today, Cuba still appeared on maps made by the USGS as late as 1918. The USGS is a science agency that maps the land and its resources.
