History of Culbertson

Culbertson was started in 1873. It was the very first county seat for Hitchcock County. A county seat is like the main town where the government offices for the county are located. The village was named after Alexander Culbertson, who was an Indian agent. This means he worked with Native American tribes for the government. Culbertson officially became a village in 1885.
